disproportionate obsession RSS

It is often said that a disproportionate obsession with purely academic or abstract matters indicates a retreat from the problems of real life.

Who killed Chandra Levy?

There are a lot of criticisms coming from the series the Washington Post has up on Chandra Levy. Common among them are - why are you spending so much time on a rich, white girl’s murder? Didn’t we all agree after 9/11 this stuff was too much in the media? Why isn’t the WP covering more important topics, like how black men in the District are getting murdered and are too much into gangs?

I think the criticisms are valid, for the most part. But I also think this is a really well-done, well-written series. It was a risky experiment on the part of the Post, but I think it was worth it. Check it out when you have a spare hour.
